SHPO's State Preservation Awards
"Through their positive, hands-on participation in the civic life of Butte, [the Butte CPR is] creating a greater understanding that Butte's historic architecture is what makes Butte what it is. And that is something worth fighting for!" — Montana State Historic Preservation Office
From the Winter 2004 issue of Preservation Montana, The Newsletter of the Montana Preservation Alliance:
On Thursday, January 20th, the State Historic Preservation Office will host the biennial Preservation Awards Ceremony at the Montana Club, 12 W. Sixth Avenue in Helena, from 5:30 - 6:30 pm. Over the past two decades, the biennial preservation awards have recognized the outstanding efforts of those who have saved, honored, and preserved properties across Montana. This year the Governor's Special Award goes to the Don Caster Round Barn. Barb Pahl will be honored for her lifetime contributions to Montana preservation. Chuck Mead of Alberton will receive the local preservationist award. And Butte CPR will be recognized as an outstanding and effective community preservation group (photo, right, of presentation ceremony).
In the past two years, 28 properties have been listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Owners are invited to receive their National Register certificates at the ceremony.
The Preservation Awards ceremony will be followed by a reception at the Montana Historical Society, 7:00 - 9:00 pm in the MHS lobby. Everyone is welcome to the reception.
