PRESERVATIONIST OF THE YEAR

Dodge Brothers Coffee Shop in July 2006. It opened in September 2006.
Butte Citizens for Preservation and Revitalization has named John Richen its 2007 Preservationist of the Year. Although there were several strong contenders for the award, the group recognized Richen's wide-ranging and creative approach to development, especially his sensitivity to preserving Butte's historic character.

In particular, Butte CPR noted Richen's revitalization of the 1901 Park Hotel. Larry Smith, CPR President, said, "The hotel was empty for many years, and it took John to have the vision and means to save it. The restoration work he has done is simply stunning. This preservation and revitalization effort has increased visitation to the entire block."

The award consists of a framed plaque recognizing Richen's contributions to historic preservation in Butte.
