NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK DESIGNATION CELEBRATION
June 2007

Butte CPR is proud to have a role in the official designation of Butte, Anaconda, Walkerville, and the BA&P Railroad as the largest National Historic Landmark District in the United States. After 14 years of effort by Butte Archives Director Ellen Crain and many others, the district was expanded to include nearly 6,000 contributing properties in March 2006. Presentation of plaques and other festivities will mark the designation during the week of Miner's Union Day (June 13) 2007. An outline of the schedule follows; please check back for further details and additional associated events.

Wednesday June 13 (Miner's Union Day) - 3:00 p.m. - Dedication of BA&P Railroad Walking Trail. Begin with ceremony at Wyoming Street end of the trail (3:00), followed by guided walks with Kevin Shannon (BA&P RR, retired, and Butte Archives) — golf carts will be provided for those needing them — and Dick Gibson (Butte CPR). The walk will end with cake and drinks at the World Museum of Mining (about 4:30). Public welcome — Free. Contact Butte-Silver Bow Archives for more information.

Friday June 15 - Official Presentation and Receipt of Designation. Speeches by local, state, and national officials and historians involved in the district expansion. In Walkerville, Butte, and Anaconda (schedule below). Public welcome — Free.
