About Butte: Links and Information for InvestorsBack to For Sale page
Butte is unparalleled as a historic preservationist's paradise. In March 2006, the U.S. Secretary of the Interior gave final approval to expand the local National Historic District to create the Butte-Anaconda National Historic Landmark District, now by far the largest in the nation. With 5,991 historically significant resources in an area of 9,774 acres, the area is recognized as a vital contributor to American history - through its multi-ethnic cultural heritage, As recently as 2004 a group of historians developed what has been called the best-preserved 1920s speakeasy west of Chicago into a tourist attraction and museum; Old Butte Historical Adventures now includes this historic underground hideaway in its guided walking tours. The National Trust for Historic Preservation listed Butte as one of its Dozen Distinctive Destinations in recognition of the remarkable diversity of the place. Old buildings require committment - but in some cases, existing properties, both commercial and residential, can be acquired for remarkably low cost. The historic four-story Sears Building was recently awarded to a developer for $10,000 - but he expects to invest $2 million or more to create a science museum and residential apartments in this uptown space. Other structures, whether obtained through the county developer packet process or normal realty channels, can be rehabilitated for less. The following links provide some resources about Butte and possible tax advantages and other support available.
